migrain Migraine-Headache

INTRODUCTION:-.
It is a disorder involving repeated or recurrent headache, associated with temporary changes in the diameter of the blood vessels in the head; the headache is always after a set of symptom (known as aura). It is also known as migraine headache.

CAUSES:-
# Migraines may occur when blood vessels of the head and neck spasm or constrict, which decreases blood flow, causing symptoms other than headache. Migraine is preceded by an aura, a group of symptoms that indicates a migraine headache. This aura consists of visual symptoms like  blurred vision etc. After some time, the blood vessels dilate (enlarge), resulting in severe headache, sometimes half of the head.

# Attacks of migraine headache may be associated with allergic reactions , bright lights, loud noises, relaxation after a period of physical or mental stress , lack of sleep, smoking or exposure to tobacco smoke, missed meals, specific foods, alcohol use , caffeine , menstrual periods, use of oral contraceptives (birth control pills) , and other conditions.

SYMPTOMS :-

BEFORE ATTACK:-
#  occur a few minutes to 24 hours before headache
#  visual changes like seeing flashing lights, temporary blind spots, photophobia, blurred vision eye pain

DURING ATTACK:-

# Headache:-throbbing , pulsating severe on the sides of the head most time on only one side of the head commonly lasts 6 to 48 hours and in most cases ameliorated by vomiting.

# Associated symptoms:-difficulty speaking, numbness, weakness loss of coordination, confusion, nausea and vomiting (which give relief in headache), increased sweating, fatigue.

AFTER ATTACK :-
# Dullness
# Need for increased sleep
# Neck pain

When to suspect it:-
Migraine headache is diagnosed on the basis of pattern of symptoms and history of migraines in the family.
If a person comes with headache and other symptoms like drowsiness , vision changes, changes in alertness and nausea and vomiting , we should suspect about migraine.

CONVENTIONAL TREATMENT:-
There is no cure for migraine in conventional mode of treatment. They only try to control the symptoms and prevention of further attacks. analgesics may reduce pain if they are taken early in the development of the headache but they are ineffective once headache starts.
The common drug in use is Ergotamine tartrate which constrict the arteries of the head hence try to control headache which is due to enlargement of arteries.
Is it a cure? Are they treating the basic cause? Are they understanding the phenomenon behind this? No they are just controlling it for a while, next attack will be more severe than the previous one and the dose of analgesic goes on increasing which after some time become ineffective and now you need a stronger one for your unbearable pain.

HOMOEOPATHIC TREATMENT:-
The treatment in homoeopathy is directed towards the cure of the cause and not toward the effect. The genetic constitutional similimum,i.e the  right homoeopathic medicine when prescribed can correct the ongoing process. The cause when removed, the system is cured and the pains disappear by themselves. The changes in diameter of blood vessels are corrected. This leads to a comfortable life.

This is what we call the cure which is the soul of homoeopathy and this possible only because homoeopathy treats the man in disease not the disease in man.
